Retailer: Online sales of smartphones soar 41% to 14 bln rbl in Q3

MOSCOW, Oct 17 (PRIME) – Russian online smartphone sales hit an all-time record in July–September with a 41% growth on the year to 13.5 billion rubles and a 42% increase in natural terms to 880,000 units, electronics retailer M.Video said on Tuesday in a statement.

“The upper price segment saw an active rise of online sales of Apple, whose smartphones enjoy clients’ trust fairly, and buyers are well aware of the design and features of the device, its advantages and order it online after deciding to purchase a new iPhone,” head of the mobile electronics department at M.Video Sergei Sukhorukov said.

“In the 10,000–20,000 ruble price segment, models of Samsung and Chinese brands-leaders Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor were popular. Online sales of Xiaomi jumped 13 times in units in January–September and 10 times in money as compared to the similar period of 2016.”

In January–September, online sales of smartphones rose 28% on the year to 35 billion rubles and 27% in natural terms to 2.2 million units. The share of online sales on the smartphone market reached 15%, the highest on the record, while it was at 12% a year earlier.

In total, offline and online sales of smartphones in the country in January–September grew 15.6% on the year to 259 billion rubles and 11% in natural terms to more than 20 million units.
